naomi armitage

Name: Naomi Armitage (she prefers just Armitage, tho')
Meaning: Naomi=Hebrew name meaning "pleasant" or "beautiful" (thanks Mac S Husby for emailing with that); Armitage=French word for "hermitage" (a hermit's dwelling).... possible combined meaning "a beautiful place to live alone"? Hmmm.....
Nicknames: None as far as we're concerned (apart from the fact that she prefers to go by her last name), though she's been referred to as "the badge-toting terror in hotpants" in the past. ^_^;
Quote: "If humans don't want me, why did they create me?"
Source of origin: Armitage III (the OAV series - I haven't seen the Polymatrix movie.)
Time of origin: 2179
Birthplace: Asakura's laboratory (Danech Hill, I think it is... not sure on that one....), on Mars.
Currently residing at: She's not really "residing" anywhere at the moment... she's just... "around"... ^_^;
Known family: No "real" family, but she considers her creator Asakura and fellow Third Type Julian Moore (aka "Pluto") to be her adopted family of sorts.
Occupation: Ex-officer with the Martian Police Dept.
Age: 19
Height: 5'4"
Species: Third Type cyborg (colloquially known as the Thirds).
Alignment: Base, n/a; celestial, Salamando.
Hair: Shoulder-length, straight, blonde
Eyes: Blue
Likes: Ice-cream, bubblegum (the phrase "I'm here to kick ass and chew gum, and I'm all outta gum" could have been invented for her ^_^;), causing mayhem, acting like a five-year-old, Hello Kitty probably ^_^
Dislikes: People who treat her as inferior because she's a Third, being branded "robot", "android" or anything similar, being called by her first name
Favourite stones: Clear quartz, hematite
Favourite flower: Flowering cacti ^^;
Physical description: As a cyborg Armitage is partially-organic (i.e. she's not totally constructed of metal and microchips), giving her an outward appearance near-identical to that of a human. The only things that distinguish her as otherwise, and which she generally hides with her clothes, are a metal implant in her left wrist (which can shoot out a tri-laser beam at will) and a pair of "wings", which fold down and fit "inside" her back, like some kind of bizarre Transformer kit, when not in use. (Yes, she can fly with them. And does.) She wasn't created with these "add-ons", but given them at a later stage by Asakura to enable her to better fight a particularly mean army of cybertroopers that were threatening to destroy his lab, him, her, and her partner (in the police sense, and the other sense) Ross. While her wings did end up getting totaled in the battle, she did manage to get hold of the more suitable (less "angelic", she would say) replacement pair she has now, which are more like interlocking metal blades than the (in her opinion) flimsy-looking things she used to have. Apart from this, as I've said, she's pretty much "human" on the outside, although her eyes do on occasion have this unsettling and unearthly way of glittering, usually when she's thinking deranged and mischievous thoughts.
Clothes: Typically, a short-sleeved red leather jacket and matching bra and hotpants, the latter fastened with a black belt adorned with a silver heart-shaped buckle. She also wears black form-fitting plastic-like boots that come halfway up her thighs, a black dog-collar-type choker (that is, like a collar you'd see on a dog, not like those things vicars wear ^_^;;) with a silver buckle, long black gloves with silver studs on the knuckles, silver earrings that look like interlocking chain-links, and often her visor-style shades. The shades aren't just for decoration - while wearing them, she can telepathically control machinery and communicate with other Thirds (with a 56Kbps connection at all times, no doubt ^_^;).
Background: As I've already gone over several times, Armitage was created by the brilliant scientist Asakura, along with several other "Third Type" cyborgs, including the one she considers her "brother", Julian. Third Types were the most advanced generation of artificial life, almost indistinguishable from humans physically and emotionally - unlike their predecessors the Second Types, who had the appearance of humans but no minds of their own. The Seconds were created to replace humans in manual labour when Mars was first colonised and cities had to be constructed in a short time, but continued to be produced afterwards as security guards, store assistants, and the like. The Thirds, however, were created to deal with Mars' population problem - put bluntly, to reproduce (a fact we both like to try and gloss over as much as possible). The mistake they made was giving them minds of their own.
   At 19 Armitage, an officer with the MPD, was assigned to a case involving the brutal murders of several Thirds. She was assigned a partner, reluctant Earth cop Ross Sylibus. (I'm aware that I now sound a lot like the box blurb for the series. ^_^) Um, to compress this... he found out about her secret, which at first caused a bit of friction between them as he once had a partner who was killed by a cyborg, but he soon came to see Armitage for who she was, not what she was. (Everybody say "ahhhh". ^_^) Armitage had a penchant for going off on her own and doing her own thing, though, which led to the MPD becoming suspicious about her involvement with the murders (she didn't do it, BTW), and eventually dropping her and Ross from the force. Um... one more thing. My reality-version of the series and the "canon" version basically split at the "Several months later" point in the final episode. Which means the dubiously cheesy happily-ever-after road-movie ending (which I felt totally clashed with both Armitage's character and the entire mood of the series) didn't happen. (Maybe if enough people protest outside Pioneer HQ, they'll make an "End of Armitage" movie... ^_^)
What she's like as a SoulBond: Armitage is actually one of my earlier SBs, arriving shortly after Celes did. For much of the time I SBed the two they fought a constant battle of one-upmanship in my head, each in turn dominating my mind and ousting the other, until finally they both disappeared for a rather long time. Armitage is a touch... "unhinged" at the best of times. She vacillates between soul-searching introspection and total hyperactivity, something that admittedly isn't unusual for my SoulBonds (prob'ly because I'm the same ^_^;), only her mood-swings are lightning-fast. Combine this with fists that can punch through solid steel, a body that can take ten rounds of ammo at point-blank range and not feel a thing, wings, inbuilt lasers and the telepathy thing, and you've got a volatile mix. Thankfully, since she's returned she's seemed pretty cheerful (::audible sigh of relief from the rest of the collective::), and doesn't even seem to hold much of a grudge against Celes. Time will tell...
Weapon of choice: Apart from the aforementioned? A small pink handgun. ^_^ She also still carries her handcuffs, which she can throw with unerring accuracy to snap onto a person's wrists (or ankles) and restrain them.
Special abilities: Do you need any more elaboration on what I've listed above? ^_^;;;;
"Theme tune": The opening theme from the series, though as I don't have the OST I haven't a clue what it's called.
Other favourite music: Anything J-pop and/or techno.
Anything else?: I've found a great page which details rules for playing Armitage (and Ross) in Warhammer 40K and Necromunda... check it out here. Can't wait to betatest these, tho' where we'll get an Armitage model is anyone's guess.... the Dark Eldar Succubi have the right outfits, at least... ^_^;;
